R & D Background
MHUG can increase cetane number of poor quality diesel, but its diesel yield is relatively low. Hydrofining, on the other hand, can produce more diesel, but has limited capability in cetane number improvement (around 5 unit). In MCI process, poor quality diesel, particularly RFCC diesel undergoes deep HDS, HDN, olefin saturation, aromatics partially saturation/ring-opening and successive hydro -saturation (little cracking).
Features of MCI process
*Improve storage stability and considerably increase diesel’s cetane number by over 10 units.
*Diesel yield over 95m%
*Operating conditions and modes similar to existed hydrofining process, therefore, there is no, or little need for revamping existed hydrofining units to adopt MCI process.
Typical results of commercial MCI applications
Feedstock: FCC diesel from crudes of tubeline, Dagang, Liaohe and Daqing
Operating conditions:
HPP, 4.5~8.5MPa;
LHSV,1.0~2.0h-1;
temperature, 340~370℃
Product diesel:
yield, 95.9m%～99.8m%
cetane number improved by 10 to 15 units,
S content lower than 100mg/g
